    Alex brings a powerhouse of experience to Nanoloom, having spent 26 years at the Royal Free Hospital as a Professor of Nanotechnology. With over 683 peer-reviewed articles and 14 international patents under his belt, he's a true leader in the field.

But Alex isn't just about groundbreaking research. He's passionate about turning ideas into reality. He's successfully commercialised numerous products and his dedication to innovation has been recognised with prestigious awards like the Medical Future Innovation prize and the EU Life Sciences Award.

  • Oliver Willett

    COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR

    Oliver spent years working behind the scenes at Canada's largest textile manufacturer, leaving his mark on groundbreaking materials like Dermoflex (the waterproof, breathable coating you love) and Crohmiq (those amazing anti-static fabrics).

His expertise extends far beyond – Oliver has a deep understanding of scaling and commercialising textiles tech, having been there for D3O impact protection and Dri-release's magic blend of moisture-wicking and absorption.

    Annabelle brings over 12 years of experience in the design industry, specifically within the realm of technical sportswear. She's not just a designer – she's a creative director who infuses brands with a unique aesthetic and a powerful identity.

 As Head of Design for multiple sportswear companies, Annabelle has a proven track record of crafting impactful designs and high-impact photoshoots that resonate with consumers.

    Currently pursuing her second degree, Paula is a rising star who brings a fresh perspective and a hunger for discovery to the Nanoloom lab.

    ENGINEER

    Andrew has extensive experience with extrusion systems and in manufacturing for various applications. He has previously established and implemented new logistics systems for manufacturing companies.

  • Dr Ningtao Mao

    Dr Ningtao holds a in PhD Textile Technology and has1lecutred at the University of Leeds, a leading textiles innovation university, for over 14 years’. He has multiple patents and extensive experience and publications covering technical textiles, high performance textiles, functional clothing, protective clothing, textile and fibre characterisation, fabric tactile properties, modelling and simulation.

  • Dr Elif Yenigun

    Dr Elif holds a PhD in Materials Science and is a Senior Tutor in textiles at the Royal College of Art, one of the top textile design institutions globally. She is a co-founder of the Nanomaterials, Textiles, and Advanced Composites Research Group at Istanbul Technical University, and is a recipient of Individual Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship for adaptive smart textiles

    Ray brings his experience as CEO of Manchester Graphene Company, where he specialises in commercialising graphene applications in partnership with Manchester University. He serves as Chair of working groups on graphene standardisation and has over a decade of experience in commercialising graphene and advanced material innovations.

  • Laurent Gauthier

    Laurent has devoted his entire professional career to the sports industry, beginning as an elite athlete and progressing through roles in sports media. He co-founded a successful disruptive sports tech company, collaborated with organizations like the Olympics, engaged with sports private equity and consultancy, and has also been an investor himself.

  • Laura McPherson

    Laura holds over a decade of experience in innovative knit construction, including creating innovative knit fabrics for SINEXPO and Missoni. She is an Associate Lecturer at Cambridge University, the Royal College of Art, the London College of Fashion and numerous other institutions.
